Happy Birthday

Though I don't believe in myths that are outside the Bible, I am a lover of ancient stories of different civilizations. Of all the myths I read, Greek mythology is my favorite. This past week, I read yet another myth of theirs that reminded me of someone I know. And that someone happened to be born this very day.

As Plato puts it:

According to Greek mythology, man was created with four arms, four legs, and a head with two faces. Fearing their power, Zeus split them into two separate parts, condemning them to spend their lives in search of their other halves.

I am very glad that my God is not Zeus, who doesn't seem to know what he is doing. But I do believe that God placed some pieces of us in someone else, and it is only when we are in their company that we will be complete. Thankfully, instead of making us search for those people, God brings us together and works with us, and so it is said, "As iron sharpens iron, so one man (in this case woman) sharpens another."

My sharpener has a habit of... How do I put this delicately? Hum... Madness. Some people call her time traffic and others like myself call her grammar lawyer. My goodness, she corrects every single grammatical error I could ever commit. Sometimes she is a voice in my head filtering the language I am about to use.

She also gives hugs that crack your ribs and squeeze your heart out of your chest. But, if you recover from it, you will realize that you need more of it.

She has loud laughter. If you walk with her on the streets you would be labeled as crazy because of this very reason. But, you will realize soon enough that your deepest pains are recovering as her laughter radiates into you. God gives many gifts. I have never encountered such as this. One that heals you and makes you embarrassed at the same time.

However, it is not the things I mentioned about her that amaze me. What makes me smile is the fact that I see Jesus himself in her. I see him reaching out to be a friend of mine, I see him caring for his mates, families, and strangers. I see him holding on to me, keeping me tight in his grip, and never letting me go. On her, his friendly manner reflects. I just can't imagine how proud he must feel about her for representing him well. I can't wait to see her receive her award from his hands when we get home.
